Why Our Tools Don't Grow Mold
A study in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology found loofahs become a breeding ground for bacteria within a single overnight period — and traced a folliculitis case back to a contaminated one. We fixed that at the fiber level.

What is an African net sponge?
An African net sponge is a long, woven mesh cloth used in the shower — a strip of open-weave fabric, not a round puff. The open weave lathers quickly, dries fast between uses, and its length lets you scrub your back without a handle. It starts out lightly textured and softens with use. Ours is woven in a double-layer mesh and comes in seven two-tone colorways
How is it different from a round loofah?
A round loofah is a dense puff. It holds a lot of lather, but it's short and it takes longer to dry. An African net is longer and far more open — it reaches your back, rinses cleaner, and air-dries in a few hours. A lot of people keep both: the loofah for everyday lather, the net for your back and shoulders. If you'd rather stay with a puff, our silver ion and charcoal loofahs use the same fiber story in the round shape.
Will it reach my back?
Yes — reaching your back is what the length is for. Hold one end in each hand and pull the mesh across your back in a gentle back-and-forth motion. Because the weave is open, the pressure stays even, and you control how firm it feels by how much you pull. For your shoulders, bunch the net in one hand and work in small circles.
How do I keep my sponge fresh between uses?
Rinse it well, shake the water out, and hang it by its loop. The thing that makes a shower tool go musty is sitting damp in a caddy — the issue is drying, not the tool. The open mesh lets air move through the weave, so it dries in a few hours instead of staying wet overnight. Most people replace a shower tool every two to three months.
What is silver ion fiber?
Silver ion fiber is a textile fiber with silver ions embedded in it — the same fiber family used in towels, sportswear and bedding. In our bath tools it's built into the fabric itself, not applied as a coating that washes off, so it's part of the product for its whole life. What that means in practice: the properties are built in to help the product stay fresh between uses.
Where do you ship from, and how fast is delivery?
We ship from our own warehouse in New Jersey, so there's no international wait and no customs. Most orders are delivered within 4–8 business days of being placed — we usually pack the same or next business day. Shipping is free on orders over $35 (after discounts, before tax) and a flat $6.00 below that. You'll get a tracking link by email as soon as your parcel leaves the warehouse.
Will it be too rough for sensitive skin?
Start with light pressure — the mesh softens noticeably after a few uses. Use it with your usual body wash, keep your strokes slow, and let the open weave do the work rather than pressing hard. If you prefer a finer texture, our Japanese exfoliating shower towel is smoother than the net.
